PE
About Our Subject
Physical education is an excellent opportunity for all students to take a full and active part in a wide range of activities outside of the classroom. The PE department strive to ensure that all students feel safe and are working towards improving themselves as a performer. We are committed to:
- Improving health and fitness
- Striving for excellence
- Developing sportsmanship
- Aiming for maximum participation.
Key Stage 3 Information
Throughout years 7-9 all students will receive two hours of high quality PE each week. Students are carefully placed into a teaching group that reflects their current ability and that will provide them with a safe but challenging learning environment. Students are encouraged to become independent learners and to think analytically about how they can improve both their own and their peer’s performances. The programme of study covers a wide range of activities, such as: netball, hockey, football, rugby, badminton, athletics, tennis, rounders and cricket. All students are encouraged to attend an extra-curricular sports club and we have a healthy fixtures calendar providing plenty of opportunity for all students to represent the school.
Key Stage 4 Information
As part of the KS4 curriculum, students take part in four hours of high quality PE every two weeks in Year 10 and three hours in Year 11. The activities studied are designed to stretch and challenge the students whilst also instilling a lifelong love of sport.
